CCA, Manila Launches CuiScene -- an Online Campus Magazine to Nurture Students' Creativity

Students need a creative output to enhance their skills. At the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA, Manila), this concern was addressed through the launch of its online publication called CuiScene, which aims to encourage interactive campus-based food journalism in its students.

CuiScene e-magazine marks another groundbreaking moment for CCA. "It's an online publication that's geared towards CCA students, and it is also open to the public," explains Anne Certeza Palmares, editor-in-chief. "It serves as a creative output and nurturing ground for our students' writing skills, as well as facilitate other artistic passions and inclinations besides food, such as photography."

Anne Palmares, Susana Guerrero, Melissa Sison
Palmares adds  that the blogsite helps in educating everyone about leading healthy lifestyles through green living. The e-magazine from the Cravings Group seeks to catalyze culinary students to campus life and learning via interactive and highly informative contents. CuiScene also aims to build a stronger campus community among students and faculty in all CCA schools through online media.

Through the e-magazine, students get to be acquainted with various community events and goings-on such as academic affairs, lifestyle trends, business, leisure spots, travel, and more. The site, which is updated on a daily and weekly basis, according to Palmares, enables "swift exchange of online information between facilitators and users perfectly fits the changing times and modern ways of communication of our CCA students."

Preview CCA, Manila's campus updates by visiting CuiScene at www.ccamanila.com/cuiscene.

FAME Gathers Members of the Online Media for a Fun Bloggers' Night at Arts in the City BGC

Ten years ago, a doctor's passion to write, along with the desire to spread health-awareness throughout the country gave birth to Friendly Alliances and Media Expressions (FAME). The past decade in the publishing industry has seen FAME continue to abide by its mission of promoting good health and a healthy lifestyle, as well as sound Christian values, and professional excellence.

FAME's publications
Presently, FAME has seven titles under its belt under the helm of publisher Dr. Rafael Castillo:

1. Health and Lifestyle (H&L) serves as the quintessential guide for the modern-day doctor
2. DiabetEASE gives advice to patients and families suffering from diabetes
3. TravelPlus promotes Philippine and international tourism
4. Zen Health empowers the modern-day woman with health-focused articles
5. Vital Signs, which is in a newsletter format, synthesizes the most recent scientific and healthcare updates taken from notable sources in the field of healthcare, medicine, and public health administration, among others. It is read by doctors, healthcare professionals, and even legislators.
6. Urban Scroll is dubbed as "the businessman's newspaper" slated to keep its readers on top of the latest business news and features
7. Baby On Board aims to help Filipino parents raise smart and healthy children. It covers stories on parenting, homemaking, relationships, child development, and medical care.

Doctors of Shinagawa
In an event dubbed "FAME Bloggers' Night" held at Arts in the City in BGC, Taguig, various bloggers from different niches such as health, fashion, entertainment, lifestyle, and photography, came to support FAME and listen to health-centered presentations.

Staff of Asian Hospital and Medical Center
Representatives from BPeptide, Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Shinagawa Lasik & Aesthetics, Cetaphil, and Restylane gave talks on breast cancer and skin treatments while other sponsors provided really nice raffle prizes and giveaways. FAME also showed us a behind-the-scenes (BTS) exclusive video of Zen Health's most recent cover shoot featuring Marian Rivera.

The Fruit Magic booth
We had fun visiting the different booths and trying out product samples such as Fruit Magic's great-tasting smoothies, delectable cakes from Goldilocks, and cute cupcakes from Glam Cakes by Myca. Other booths gave us goodie bags containing a lot of useful products that I would be reviewing in separate blog posts in the coming days.

Glam Cakes by Myca
My sincerest thanks to FAME's other event partners and sponsors: Pregroe, Gluta Advance, Calvin Plus, VMV Hypoallergenics, J. Thomas, Yumei Mise, Ralph's Wines, Trianon International, Celeteque, Asian Secrets, C-Lium Fibre, Myra-E, Tiny Buds, pH Care, Coco Natura, Poten-Cee, MEGAFIBER, Swish, OraCare, Nu-Moms, Foot Appeal, Summatrade, CalChews, and Ascof for making the night more fun and memorable by generously giving away lots of freebies that we'd be happy to try and spread the word about!

At the end of the night, me, my hubby (of trailsunlimited.blogspot.com) and our friend Ryan (of anakngpasig.com) looked like we just bought a whole store because we all went home with several bags! Thank you FAME and partners/sponsors for the informative talks and free stuff! :)

Doug and Chesca Kramer Grace MoneySense Magazine's May-June Cover

It's not often I get to interview celebrity couples so I'm glad to have had the chance to chat with Doug and Chesca Kramer about money matters and their family. Our interview and photo shoot happened at their townhouse somewhere in the Ortigas area. They are a handsome couple who are blessed with two lovely daughters.

I was impressed at Doug's and Chesca's answers to my questions. They gave very sensible replies which showed how determined they are in raising their family the best way they know how.

Read how they handle their finances and plan for the future. Please grab a copy of MoneySense magazine's Family issue and turn to their story on pages 37-41.

You can also find the following articles I wrote in this issue:
  • Planning for Your Wedding - page 6
  • Business Opportunities in Franchising - pages 13-14
  • Annie Medina: In the Business of Promoting Filipino Music - pages 22-23
  • Raising Financially-Smart Children - pages 42-45
If you were not able to have a copy of our March-April Travel issue where I featured Department of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Ramon Jimenez on pages 42-46, you can now read the online version at MoneySense Magazine's website.

Secretary Jimenez said a lot of quotable quotes that I included in the article like, "Boracay is just a pile of sand without the Filipinos. You take the Filipinos out of Boracay and it wouldn’t be very much different from other places. It still will be very pretty, but it won’t be as memorable." Makes a lot of sense, right?

He also illustrated how successful the slogan "It's More Fun in the Philippines" has become and what his department is further doing to make our country the top tourist destination in Asia.

I urge you to get a printed copy of this issue because there are a lot of other articles there that will help you improve the way you handle your personal finances. Rest assured we tailor articles for the Filipino reader. My other write ups in the Travel issue include:
MoneySense, the Philippines' first publication on personal finance, is available in major bookstores and magazine stands. Sam Concepcion & Julie Anne San Jose On the Cover of Pinoy Mag's March - April 2012 Issue

Last month, a photo of Sam Concepcion and Julie Anne San Jose was posted in Pinoy Magazine's Facebook fan page announcing the couple's appearance in the publication's next issue. On February 28, "SamLieonPinoyMag" landed on the sixth spot of trending topics in micro-blogging site Twitter while the photo shoot was ongoing. Although Sam and Julie came from rival networks, their respective fans seem to like the new team up and some even dubbed it as a "dream tandem" even though each was being paired with different artists.

Two days after the said photo shoot, Pinoy mag posted a video duet of Sam and Julie singing the chorus part of Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown's "No Air". A fan named AmBootSaImo posted the clip on YouTube and garnered 50,000 view in just five days and lots of positive comments.

Please visit the YouTube version of the video above to read all the reactions.

Back to the Pinoy Mag issue, Sam and Julie Anne will share there the role they want to fulfill in the entertainment business; what qualities they look for in a musical tandem; what they do to keep burning up; the pressures of being role models; and their answers to some of the most intriguing and controversial questions straight from their fans.

For those who don't know much about these two, Sam is dubbed as The Ultimate Multimedia Teen Heartthrob. He is a regular in ASAP Rocks and a cast member of Angelito: Batang Ama. He has also started shooting the comedy-musical I Do Bi Doo, Bi Doo.

Julie Anne, on the other hand, is known as The Ultimate Musical Princess who performs in Party Pilipinas every Sunday. She has started filming her first movie Just One Summer and will soon release her solo album under GMA Records.

Pinoy Magazine Editor-in-Chief Annie Media affirms that it has been long overdue to have Sam and Julie featured on their front cover. "Both should be given the best projects from their respective networks. This is the right time to fully utilize their talents," she expressed. "They are equally talented, very devoted to their craft, and simply the best musicians of their generation. An additional factor is the huge fan base that both have."

Annie adds that the way the photo shoot went, they won't be surprised if the two will have a collaboration or a musical project together in the near future.

The SamLie issue will be available in all 7/11, Mini-stop, Odyssey Record Bars, Astroplus, Booksale, Filbars, NBS, Shell Select, Mightee Mart, newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide for only Php 28.00 starting March 29th.

To know more about the SamLie issue, visit: https://www.facebook.com/PinoyMagazine on Facebook or follow them on Twitter: @pinoysongmag.

On another note, while it's still available, grab also a copy of Pinoy Magazine's February issue with Kean Cipriano on the cover because my blog post about Somedaydream's Blogger's Night is included there!

Thank you again Annie and Ayelski for reprinting the piece :)

Pinoy Mag Soon to Release Semi-Collector's Edition Featuring Somedaydream

The "Dreamers" have another cool thing to look forward to next week. I had a chat with Annie of Pinoy Mag the other night at the MCA Music office and she showed me the digital copy of their first cover for 2012 :)

Yep, Somedaydream will grace Pinoy Magazine's kick-off issue's front and back covers for January-February. The magazine will be officially available at leading newsstands and bookstores nationwide starting January 19.

Some cover texts are intentionally blurred for confidentiality
until the issue comes out on January 19
Fans of Rez Toledo would want to grab a copy (or more :p) of this semi-collector's item because, according to the press release sent to me, the magazine contains 38 pages of exclusive photographs that include never-before-seen photos of Somedaydream while he was growing up. In addition, there will be 100 plus secrets and confessions that followers of 2011's OPM Breakthrough Artist would surely love to know :)

As a backgrounder, Somedaydream started as an Internet sensation but, as soon as his first single “Hey Daydreamer” was heard on the radio and gained massive airplay, there was no stopping one-man-act Rez Toledo from winning the hearts of a bigger audience. In the latter part of 2011, he was named as OPM Breakthrough Artist at the Yahoo! OMG Awards and also selected as one of Yahoo! Philippines Icons. Furthermore, Monster Radio RX 93.1 named him OPM Male Artist while “Hey Daydreamer” became OPM Song of the Year for 2011.

The much-anticipated Pinoy Mag issue will be available at the following outlets: ASTROPLUS, 7/11, Mini-Stop, Expression Inc., Pandayan Inc, Odyssey Record Bars, National Bookstores, NBS Book Express, Mercury Drug (selected branches only), Ever Supermarket, Wilcon Builders Depot, Filbars Inc., Kid & Mom, Mightee Mart, Total Gasoline Station, Petron Gasoline, Shell Select, Caltex, Booksale Cebu, Sea Oil Gasoline, Tropical Foodmart, Office Warehouse, RJ Guitar, Quick Stop, Emilenes Drug Stores, Finds Convenience Store, and newsstands nationwide for PhP28.00 each.

Champ Lui Pio and Rez Toledo of Somedaydream in CodeRED Magazine

Edit Dec. 2: Wanna win a copy of this magazine with Somedaydream's autograph on his feature? Read this blog post to find out how. Giveaway ends on December 20, 2011 :)

Here's sharing something that I think fans of both Champ Lui Pio and Rez Toledo of Somedaydream would be happy to know...

Both gifted music artists are featured in the Sept-Nov issue of CodeRED magazine! This is a family-oriented publication that has sections for both parents and their children.

A few months ago, my editor asked me to look for a young celebrity who would be a good role model for our young readers. At the time, I've met Rez twice on two different occasions and immediately thought he has an inspiring story kids and teens would be interested to know more about. Aside from being very talented, Rez seems very down to earth.

I contacted Champ (Somedaydream's manager), asked if I could write Rez's story, and we agreed on an interview date. When we all got together and while I was talking to Rez and getting other inputs from Champ (who's another very talented musician), I discovered about TreeHouse Day Care, an advocacy close to Champ's heart. I also found out that he has been a volunteer firefighter for the past three years.

So, to make the long story short, I ended up with not one, but two wonderful articles: a feature on Rez as an emerging music artist, and a feature on Champ as an advocate for children and other causes :)

Read their inspiring stories in the pages of CodeRED magazine. It's available in National Book Store, Powerbooks, and the Merriam & Webster bookstore just outside Don Bosco, Makati.

Miriam Quiambao Graces MoneySense Magazine's Cover

Grab a copy of the Nov-Dec 2010 issue of MoneySense magazine with Miriam Quiambao on the cover. Be inspired by her story and those of other people featured in this issue.

Aside from writing the cover story on Miriam (The Art of the Comeback, pp. 42-46), I also featured a very talented band called Kaze (A Journey of Friendship and Music, pp. 38-39) and wrote about how to choose one's charity (Giving Back, pp. 62-64). Check out other useful articles that will help you spend more wisely this Christmas season :)

If you haven't heard them yet, listen to this wonderful original Kaze song from their album No Reason

Hello, Optimism!

I've just discovered a fairly new and very interesting publication. Monday Magazine is thick, heavy, and filled with a wide range of topics that range from people, fashion, entertainment, technology, etc. etc. The covers are intriguing enough (they have male and female versions), but many of the photos inside would also compel you to look at them more than once.

The layout of the pages are easy on the eyes which makes the text easy to read. Moreover, the articles have catchy titles and contain lots of new ideas that entertain and educate at the same time. Some are even very intriguing! I'd definitely watch out for their succeeding issues.

And oh, I so love their tagline! Very uplifting! "Hello, Optimism!" indeed! :)

Press Release: Monday Magazine Says Hello to Optimism!

When was the last time you fell in love with a magazine? Better yet, when was the last time you held a magazine that speaks to you, in the right blend of smart, engaging words and snappy, sophisticated design?

Monday Magazine is a new media platform that embodies taste, dynamism, excitement, enthusiasm, aspiration, inspiration— values that thrive in, and drive today’s modern professionals.

It dissects a wide range of topics that are well researched and written. It is a theater for diverse opinion, discussion and entertaining insight, a hub of reflections on people, brands and ideas that shape the individual’s perspective and lifestyle.

Monday Magazine never underestimates the intelligence of its readers.

Focusing on three main areas—Corporate Culture, Consumerism and Lifestyle—the magazine is relentlessly optimistic and aspirational. It seeks to inspire - if not altogether influence – the trend towards progressive and analytical thought blended with joy and humor.

Monday Magazine comes out every other month, six issues a year. This is because every issue is meticulously thought out and laid out in terms of concept, presentation and quality—with a deep respect for its readers and its advertisers. The bi-monthly pace is also a strategic plan to make advertising not only cost-efficient but imbued with a longer shelf-life, thereby maximizing exposure and mileage.

*Monday Magazine is available in all branches of Powerbooks, National Bookstore, and Fully Booked, as well as in major magazine stands.
