I am a big fan of LED lights. They have proven to be a very big help in lowering our electric bills at home. Sure, they are priced higher than the regular bulbs, but the long-term savings are worth it!
maximize energy efficiency by using LED lights according to their purpose |
About a year or more ago, my husband and I started to slowly replace the lights around our house. I say slowly because we'd buy just one or two bulbs at a time when we do our grocery shopping if we can fit them in the budget. You see, we have lights that are kept on the whole night and used to cost us a lot in terms of electricity.
Nowadays, we worry less about lighting consumption because we know we won't have to pay as much as before thanks to our LED bulbs. Plus, we are assured that they will last for years!
not all bright lights consume high electricity |
Lighting definitely plays an important aspect in any interior space and it’s amazing what the right tone and brightness can bring to a room. However, people usually focus on furniture, carpentry, and walls when they're decorating with lights almost coming as an afterthought.
clever lighting |
In the past, traditional lighting simply dictates that you need a central light fixture in the room to illuminate everything. But, if you're aiming for a more sophisticated look, positioning lamps in certain areas can highlight key focal points such as a painting or an accent piece of furniture.
What many people also need to learn is that each room in our homes have different lighting requirements depending on style and purpose, which can make or break the rooms' functional and aesthetic interior design. For instance, some people unknowingly use high wattage bulbs on very small rooms or vice versa.
choose your lighting well to maximize efficiency |
Architect Conrad Onglao explains that lighting serves different purposes: accent lighting to highlight artwork, indirect lighting to create mood, or task lighting on desks or above kitchen counters where clear light is necessary so that function and design complement one another.
According to him, while there is no blanket lighting solution for all spaces, he recommends that a bedroom should have soft and warm lighting while an office space must have bright white lighting to keep one alert. It's good to know that most Orbik bulbs have both warm white (yellowish feature) and daylight (crisp white color) options. Plus, many of them are very affordable!
did you know? LED bulbs are always cool to the touch! |
Too, we must remember that buying low quality bulbs can be a hassle if you keep changing them when they stop working after just a short time. "This is where LED makes a difference," points out Chan. LED is very energy-efficient, has low environmental impact, and is very cost-effective because it can last over three times longer than old bulbs. Thus, switching to LED means we save money, effort, and the environment. That's a win-win situation I personally like!
