We're all familiar with chocolate fountains and fondue, right? But I didn't know there is such a thing as Cheese Fondue. And when I got to try one last week at The Swiss Deli Restaurant in BF Homes Paranaque, I've saved the experience away as one of the best food trips I've ever had!
Needless to say, my husband and I excitedly dipped small slices of bread into a huge bowl containing a bubbling concoction made with Swiss Appenzeller, Emmenthal, and Gruyere cheeses plus a dash of wine. It is amaaaaazingly delicious!
Cheese Fondue - P600 (good for 2-4 persons already) |
We had this together with cups of warm tea because, we were told, it's not advisable to be drinking something cold to prevent the cheese from hardening inside the tummy and thus potentially causing indigestion or stomachache.
But, aside from the popular cheese fondue, Swiss Deli has lots of other offerings that will make you come back again and again. As I am typing this, I have begun craving for their many lip smacking dishes!
Seafood Chowder - P185 for full size bread bowl (this is a mini one by request) |
I love their chunky Seafood Chowder served in a bread bowl. This one in the photo is not the actual size as hubby and I asked that they split one serving into two so we can share. (Yes, they nicely accommodate requests like that!)
Sausage Platter - P390 |
Another bestseller in this homey restaurant is their Sausage Platter served pulutan style. It has four types of sausages made in Davao by a Swiss Butcher Chef who's actually the dad of one of Swiss Deli's owners, Chef Rachel Kehl Lua.
With talented chefs and husband and wife team Jeffry and Rachel |
She and her husband Chef Jeffry Lua are graduates of the International School of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM) and started in the food business by offering catering services under the name Snarf Catering. When they moved to the South, they put up The Swiss Deli Restaurant last year and the place has since gained a lot of loyal customers who come from as far as Quezon City just to sample their delicious fares.
Mediterranean Pasta Salad - P165 |
Back to the dishes, I enjoyed the freshness of their Mediterranean Pasta Salad with seasonal greens, tuna chunks, and Italian dressing. This is great to eat with a forkful of the sausages in between :)
Pork Knuckle - P385 |
If you love crispy pata or bagnet, you have got to order the crispy cured Pork Knuckle served with Sauerkraut and potatoes. This is sooooo good! You will throw away any worries about cholesterol. I did! :p
Marinated Beef Ribs - P300 |
And then there's the Marinated Beef Ribs with its savory sauce. The meat is so tender, it easily separates from the bones! Choose rice, spatzle, mashed potato, or English fries to go with it. Love this one, too!
Basil Lemonade and Pomegranate Mojito - P110 each |
For our cold drinks, we chose from the Mock-tails (non-alcoholic cocktails) menu. Hubby had the Basil Lemonade while I ordered Pomegranate Mojito. If I wasn't too full with all the food we were eating, I'd probably be able to finish a pitcher of these. Both are refreshingly good!
Apple Strudel (P120), Caramel Cake (P120) |
As for dessert, we sampled three indulgent preparations and, again, were impressed at how yummy they all are. Actually, everything we tried at Swiss Deli are highly recommended! It was obvious that each dish was developed and prepared with careful detail.
function room is the one with the red tablecloths |
For those who are looking for a great place to eat with a private function room, Swiss Deli has one. And in case you'd like to bring home cheese and sausages, there are varieties available near the counter.
Lots of sausages and cheeses to choose from! |
Make sure to plan a visit to The Swiss Deli Restaurant at 321 Aguirre St. BF Homes Paranaque very soon. They are open Mondays to Fridays at 10AM to 10PM and weekends at 8AM to 10PM. It's easy to spot because Spatzle the Cow is there to greet you even before you enter the doors :)
Didn't realize we almost covered Spatzle! :p |
Hey, how about bringing your mom there this coming Mother's Day?! That would be a most appreciated treat!
