I have been a Cirque du Soleil fan since I was in college and it was my dream to see them perform live. That came true two years ago when I got to watch Varekai when it was staged in Manila. Read my blog post about it here. I was also very fortunate to catch Saltimbanco last year at the Mall of Asia Arena.
This 2013, be transported to magical and dreamlike worlds once more but, this time, via the big screen as Megaworld Lifestyle Malls present the much-awaited 3D adventure film Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. I was one of the privileged few who were able to watch the advanced screening last weekend courtesy of Megaworld in partnership with Inside Showbiz.
The film is starred in by members of the world-famous group from Canada who are known for showcasing a dramatic mix of circus artistry and breathtaking acrobatics and stunts. This highly-anticipated movie will be shown exclusively in 3D at Eastwood City, Lucky Chinatown, and Newport Mall Cinemas beginning March 6.
Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away is about the story of Mia (Erica Linz) who searches for the Aerialist (Igor Zaripov), a performer she fell in love with while watching a carnival show. The two were separated by an accident which led them to look for each other amidst the enchanting but very surreal worlds of Cirque du Soleil where strange and whimsical characters abound. You'll be amazed at how much the human body can do while watching all the acts. Settings-wise, see stuff we only see in dreams as they really look magical and one-of-a-kind. The grand finale showcases the lovers' reunion through a breathtaking aerial courtship performance.
In the early parts of the movie, the staple Cirque music with the incomprehensible words were played. But, later on, strains of Beatles' songs accompanied several performances which made them more fun to watch because the melodies and lyrics changed into familiar and well-loved tunes.
If you've seen circus/acrobatic acts before but haven't encountered Cirque du Soleil's unique style, you haven't seen anything yet! You really have to watch this movie and see for yourself why Cirque artists are hailed as the best among the best when it comes to perfecting their craft. The costumes, as well, are something not to be missed.
World Away is written and directed by Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) and produced by acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic). It brings together the unforgettable scenes and characters from the show's successful run in Las Vegas last year including the well-loved shows O, Mystere, Ka, Love, Zumanity, Viva Elvis, and Criss Angel Believe.
Read my other blog post here which talks about the amenities and features of the cinemas in all three of the Megaworld Malls mentioned earlier. And to make your movie experience more fun and convenient, make sure to avail of the Lucky Chinatown and Newport Cinemas Movie Card which are available in P200, P300, and P500 (Newport) and P160, P200, and P300 (Lucky Chinatown) respectively. The cards are valid for one year and can be used to conveniently redeem tickets at the booth any time, any day.
In Newport, check out their unique snack offering that will make your movie experience more delectably fun. They have Gourmet Popcorn that fuses a whole new mouthwatering twist to the all-time favorite snack as movie buffs can order them in exciting flavors such as Bubblegum, Taco, Wasabi, Ketchup, and Soy Chicken.
