It’s the time once again when music-loving Filipinos are expected to stay tuned every Thursdays and Fridays on Star World as the popular reality TV show American Idol returns for its 12th season.
To celebrate the premiere last January 17, Star World treated members of the press, Twitter personalities, local celebrities, and AI fans to an exclusive viewing party at URBN Bar and Kitchen at The Fort Strip in Bonifacio Global City. The event, hosted by DJ Tracy Abad of Mellow 94.7 and DJ Suzy from Magic 89.9, lasted for several hours.
Star World prepared a lot of surprises for the guests, which made the night more fun and exciting. Upon registration, we were asked to choose between joining Team Mariah or Team Nicki to play at the rumored rivalry between the two new AI judges – legendary diva Mariah Carey and rap superstar Nicki Minaj. Everyone was given very nice giveaways based on the team we joined.
Before watching the premiere that was aired live on Star World, we were welcomed by Jude Turcuato, VP Territory Head of Fox International Channels, Philippines. The much anticipated screening began at 6PM. During each commercial break, the hosts raffled off some really great prizes including flat screen TVs, speaker systems, blu ray DVD players, and Technomarine watches, among others. Some of my friends, including myself, won prizes and I went home with a new TV! :)
As with previous seasons, I enjoyed watching the highs and lows of the first two audition episodes. It was also amusing to watch two new lady judges bicker while the two male judges, founding judge and respected music producer Randy Jackson and country singer Keith Urban, had to act as referees once in a while.
The pilot episode showed a very interesting mix of aspiring contestants. As expected, there were those who seemed to have been included in the list to provide amusement while there are some gems that surfaced and impressed us with their beautiful voices.
American Idol Season 12 has gotten off to a great start and I’m sure the next episodes, said to be having new twists in the audition process, would showcase more talented individuals who deserve to go up the AI stage. The four judges’ combined wealth of experience in the music industry would definitely allow them to pick the best of the best to journey on and become the next American Idol.
Stay tuned for when the show puts into effect the “American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour” and “Nominate an Idol” programs, which are new ways to audition that would surely make waves in AI history. Be updated with all these and more every week on Star World, the Home of Idols.
