Filipinos excel in whatever industry we put our minds to, including fashion design. We have designers like Monique Lhuiller who is known abroad and is patronized by famous clientele such as Hollywood stars and other celebrities. It's no surprise that a lot of young Filipinos with the passion to come up with their own creations would aspire to reach that level of success.
This Sunday, March 25, Project Runway Philippines returns in its 3rd season at 8PM on the ETC Channel. It will launch the careers of 15 up-and-coming designers who will go through weekly challenges set to test their creativity and skills. To the guide the contestants with their extensive expertise in the field of fashion are host Tweetie de Leon, mentor Jojie Lloren, and judges Rajo Laurel and Apples Aberin.
The stakes are high as each contender vies for a spot at the final runway where they will showcase their final collections to top industry insiders. But only one can take the top spot and many are holding their breaths to find out who it will be.
Last night, I was among the guests who got to view the first episode of Project Runway Philippines 3 at the Genting Club in Resorts World Manila. The scenes were adrenalin pumping with bits of humorous moments that had us all laughing. There are one liners thrown by Jojie and by the contestants themselves that you should really watch out for. I am sure you will also laugh out loud when you hear those yourself.
Aside from watching the pilot episode, we also got to witness firsthand the contestants' first creations via a fashion show where even the designers looked like models themselves. Amazing! I have my own bets but I don't want to spoil any surprise so I'm keeping mum about it.
The show features designers from all over the country with varying fashion and non-fashion related backgrounds as well as their own personal taste and style. The diverse group will make for an exciting season as they square off for Runway supremacy. The designers are: Ionica Abraham of Manila; Almor Albano from Laoag City; MJ Alminanza from Zambales; Yves Camingue from Cebu City; Nel Claveria, Jr. from Camarines Sur; Karla Galang from Quezon City; Jenno Gacasan from Cebu City; Glenn Gonzales from Pangasinan; Fatima Guerrero from Nueva Ecija; Enzo Libo-on from Bacolod; Joseph Montelibano from Iloilo; Lhenvil Paneda from La Union; Milka Redoble from Pasig; Cheetah Rivera from Manila; and Normannie Santos from Bulacan.
Whoever will be crowned Best Designer this season will receive half-a-million pesos in prize money; P120,000 worth of cash and beauty products from Pond’s; a fashion spread featuring his/her final collection in Mega Magazine; a brand new Intuos4 Wacom pen tablet, and a full-4-year fashion design and technology scholarship from iAcademy; sewing machines worth P300,000 from Brother International; and an all-expense paid trip to Paris to experience Paris Fashion Week courtesy of L’Oreal Paris.
Now those are some really cool prizes! Stay tuned for the whole season to find out who will win. Again, Project Runway Philippines premieres this March 25, Sunday at 8PM on ETC.
Project Runway Philippines is presented by L’Oreal Paris, Pond’s Age Miracle, and in partnership with Mega Magazine and iAcademy.
