And the MYX Music Awards 2012 Winners Are ...

Nowadays, I listen to music more than I watch TV shows. Let me also say that I've been listening to OPM music more than before because so many talented young artists have recently started to make waves along with the seasoned ones which made Filipino music come alive again.

When I found out we got media passes to the MYX Music Awards 2012 at the Music Museum last night, I didn't think twice whether to go or not. I didn't want the opportunity to pass to witness firsthand if my favorite music artists would win in the categories they were nominated for.

The show started off with renditions by various artists (forgot to take note who they all were, sorry) who sang all five of the nominated pieces for Favorite Song. Julie Ann San Jose sang a different arrangement of Hey Daydreamer which, until now, I couldn't decide if I like or not. On the other hand, I found KC Concepcion's version of Zia Quizon's Ako Na Lang really good.

The first batch of winners were announced right after the production number:

Favorite Song: Pangarap Lang Kita by Parokya ni Edgar

Favorite KPop Video: Mr. Simple by Super Junior
Favorite Media Soundtrack: Fallin' by Sarah Geronimo (Catch Me I'm In Love)
Favorite Remake: Unbelievable by Chicosci

Next, Never The Strangers delighted audiences with their song "Alive" before another round of winners were revealed:

Favorite MYX Live Performance: Parokya ni Edgar
Favorite Mellow Video: Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay by Sponge Cola (Director: Yan Yuzon)

Favorite Urban Video: Elmer by Gloc-9 feat. Jaq Dionisio & Jomal Linao (Director: J. Pacena)
Favorite Rock Video: Halik by Kamikazee (Director: Avid Liongoren)

Again, another foot-tapping number was presented on stage featuring a medley of songs by The 70s Super Band, one of whom was Sir Nonoy Tan, the dad of Champ and Chino Lui Pio. They were joined by younger singers who enthusiastically sang songs that may have existed even before they were born :)

The next presenter gave everyone some good laughs because it was no other than Miriam Defensive Santiago (a.k.a. the talented Jon Santos) wearing a judge's robe and dishing out so many punchlines, people can't seem to stop chuckling.

"She" announced the first of the next batch of winners:

Favorite International Video: Firework by Katy Perry
Favorite Collaboration: One Hit Combo by Parokya ni Edgar feat. Gloc-9
Favorite Guest Appearance in a Music Video: JM de Guzman in Pangarap Lang Kita by Parokya ni Edgar feat. Happee Sy
Favorite MYX Celebrity VJ: Somedaydream

The crowd cheered when Zia Quizon came up on stage to sing her second single Dear Lonely. She really has such an amazing voice! Here's the next batch of winners:

Favorite Group: Parokya ni Edgar
Favorite New Artist: Zia Quizon

Favorite Male Artist: Gloc-9
Favorite Female Artist: Yeng Constantino

Before the last two awards were given, Maestro Ryan Cayabyab was honored by a succession of singers who sang his compositions. They were The CompanY, Jed Madela, Geneva Cruz, Basil Valdes, and Regine Velasquez whose crystal clear voice certainly wowed the audience.

Final awards were:
Favorite Artist: Parokya ni Edgar
Favorite Music Video: 20/20 by Pupil (Director: Jason Tan)

It was indeed a great night for Original Pilipino Music. I believe that everyone who were nominated are winners in their own right because it takes real talent to compose songs that resonate with music lovers wherever they are.

Again, my sincerest congratulations to the winners and nominees of the MYX Music Awards 2012! Mabuhay ang musikang Pinoy!
