Iconic Headwear Brand, New Era Cap, Opens Its First Store in the Philippines

New Era, the world's most renowned headwear brand and official provider of on-field caps to Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Football League (NFL), has just opened its first store in the Philippines last Tuesday.

Cap enthusiasts get to choose from over 500 cap styles inspired by different sports leagues and iconic characters, including the much celebrated 59FIFTY fitted cap, which has been considered as the premium cap of choice.

It's quite overwhelming, actually, to see all the very nice, authentic merchandise displayed all over this flagship store because I saw a lot of designs I like, especially the ones with the Avengers and Iron Man logos.

According to Melvin Lloyd Lim, Chairman and CEO of Authentic Caps Retail Inc., the New Era store opening in the Philippines has been a much-anticipated event. "There are a lot of cap enthusiasts and New Era cap fans in Manila alone. Bringing the brand here and giving it its own store is sure to amplify the resurging interest in caps and headwear in general," he shared, adding that they are ready to fuel a cap revolution.

The first New Era store in the country is said to bring the best interior designs from other flagship stores around the globe. Another interesting feature is the cap blocking machine, which helps shape recently-bought caps and freshen up worn ones. In addition to caps, New Era also carries apparel, bags, cap care products, and other cap accessories.

As to designs, New Era has an impressive and comprehensive archive with licenses that are among the most extensive in the headwear industry. Choose from beautifully-rendered logos and characters from Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Looney Tunes, DC Comics, Peanuts, Wu Tang Clan, Flintstones, and Muhammad Ali. Apart from the MLB and NFL, the store also carries sports licenses from the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Basketball Association (NBA).

To those who are not familiar with its history, New Era caps was founded in 1920 by Ehrhardt Koch with a US$ 5,000 capital from his aunt. His small shop became known for men’s casual and uniform caps, including what is known today as “newspaper” or “flapper” caps. Later, he eventually forayed into creating professional baseball caps, catering to pro teams such as Pittsburgh Pirates, the Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, and Detroit Tigers, among others. In 95 years, the small shop in Buffalo, New York spawned a multi-national business.

The flagship store launch was graced by performances by The Crew Dance and Red Bull BC One Philippines Cypher winner B-Boy Haslah while VIP guests included David Guison, Mikey Bustos, RA Rivera, Quark Henares, Jinri Park, Erika Padilla, Kean Cipriano, Raimund Marasigan, and Luke Landrigan, among others.
