Sofitel Philippine Plaza Celebrates Filipino Women in Honor of Mother's Day with A MOTHER'S LEGACY



Mother's Day is just around the corner and Sofitel Philippine Plaza has prepared several offerings to celebrate Filipino women from May 9 (Friday) to May 11 (Sunday) this 2014.

A Mother's Legacy
Guests will be treated to live demonstrations from women artisans of Luzon featuring an Abel Iloco weaver from Paoay, Ilocos Norte; a barong embroiderer from Taal, Batangas; and a basket weaver from Manila. If you're dining at Spiral during lunch and dinner from May 10 to 17, you may participate in mini workshops that aim to further cultivate the Philippines' tradition of weaving and embroidery.

In addition, there will be culinary traditions to be showcased as Spiral's female chefs whip up local favorites while master chefs share secret recipes that have echoed through three generations of mothers in their families. Imagine the sumptuous flavors that were passed on through the years!

Experience a traditional Filipino fiesta in ambiance and cuisine with stations of local fare interlaced with 21 ateliers. Taking the lead in this gastronomic journey would be traditional Ilocano dishes featuring sinugba, pinakbet, longganisa, lechon, and empanada

You'll also get to meet Editha Dacuycuy, a renowned pioneer and innovator of dragon fruit farming, who will share some of their best-selling products including dragon fruit cookies and wine produced in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. A well-loved snack from the region called cornik will likewise be made available.

Be amazed at the art of floral expression when Sofitel's resident botanical specialist, Larry Pagsanjan, does his magic by demonstrating very creative and essential designer blooms in a special workshop on May 10 dinnertime and May 11 during brunch.

Bergamo presents Burdang Taal 
A Mother's Day Legacy, showcasing traditional craftsmanship in a journey through time featuring enduring customs and heirloom cuisine, is made possible in collaboration with the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, Bergamo, and S.C. Vizcarra. As a bonus treat, Spiral patrons will get a chance to win prizes from Jewelmer and L'Oreal Paris.


On the night of May 13, head to Sofitel to watch the Fashion Show at Spiral, which will feature the works of the finest female weavers from Ilocos Norte. The Abel Iloco, considered to be the local tweed, is a cotton loom woven textile with a rich tradition that dates back to 1572. Designer Ryan Madamba, who hails from the region, will give Abel Iloco a modern twist by incorporating it in his luxury resort and evening wear collection. The fashion show will also honor Filipina leaders who have been recognized as Sofitel's remarkable mothers. 


Spiral's Mother's Day Brunch is from 12NN to 3PM. Rates are set at P3550++ for adults and P1500++ for kids. Dinner rates are set at P2500++ for adults and P1300++ for kids. Children four years old and below eat for free.
