Movie Review: Jack Reacher Starring Tom Cruise

One sunny morning, six shots instantly took five lives away when a gunman seemed to have randomly chosen victims walking along the river. After gathering compelling evidence, the police immediately arrests one man. When he was interrogated, he wrote this down on paper: "Get Jack Reacher!"

Defense attorney, Helen Rodin (Rosamund Pike) thought Reacher (Tom Cruise) would be able to help her case but he turned out to have a different agenda. This began an extraordinary chase for the truth behind the killings with Jack Reacher being pitted against an unknown and unexpected enemy who has a skill for violence and a secret to keep. In short, Reacher found more than he bargained for.

I love this film because the plot appeared complicated at the beginning. And yet, as the story unfolds, one would slowly piece together the puzzle of how the shooting happened and what the motive behind it is.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, it's great how the scriptwriter was able to inject small doses of humor in the story. I found myself chuckling more than once along with other viewers. Amazingly, for an action-thriller-drama film, Tom Cruise, in all his energetic action star splendor, can still make people laugh even while under dire circumstances. It's hard to explain how, exactly. You have to watch the film to see for yourself what I mean. I can also promise that you won't be bored with this movie because it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and based on the book by Lee Child, Jack Reacher also stars Robert Duvall, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, and Jai Courtney. It is currently showing in Philippine cinemas distributed by Solar Entertainment Corporation.
