Uniqlo Reveals Four Celebrity Endorsers

Last February, I was invited to a press conference, as a member of the trad media, about a popular Japanese clothing line set to open in the Philippines this coming June. Aside from including a write up about it in MoneySense magazine, I also blogged about it because I know my readers would also appreciate the news.

Less than a month before they finally open, UNIQLO revealed last night its four celebrity endorsers who embody the brand's "Made For All" philosophy. The tagline is said to capture the company's vision of making casual clothing available for everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity and any other ways that define an individual. The “UNIQLO Cast” were chosen to play the vital role of creating a bridge between the UNIQLO brand and the heart of every Filipino.

Presenting the four faces of UNIQLO in the Philippines:

Chris Tiu represents the true sports figure who is also an inspiration for education (he has two college degrees!). Aside from playing basketball, hosting and doing commercial modeling and product endorsements, Chris is also a businessman who has successfully maintained his wholesome image. I have interviewed him for MoneySense magazine's cover story before and found that he is, indeed, an impressive young man who talks a lot of sense.

Iza Calzado is who many describe as a “triple threat.” This beautiful lady can act, dance, and sing. Aside from playing movie roles and characters in various TV shows, she co-hosts in ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime show ASAP. Her smiling face was a delight to see during the press con. Someday, I wish I can also feature her in one of my feature articles.

Chito Miranda, the singer-songwriter, is a witty and funny guy who made us laugh several times last night. If you still don't know, he's the frontman of Parokya ni Edgar, a funk rock/alternative group that made ripples in the early 90s music scene. This group gave Filipino rock music a truly unique sound that was loved by many Filipino music fans regardless of socio-economic status and age.

Nikki Gil, the girl with boundless energy  not only shines as a MYX VJ but has also proven her talents in singing, hosting, and acting in movies and on the theater stage (read my review of Sweet Charity here). She is also a staunch protector of the environment and a popular product endorser just like Chris Tiu. Both of them, moreover, advocate for education and child sponsorship through World Vision Philippines.

According to UNIQLO, these Filipino Cast members exemplify the MADE FOR ALL philosophy in their own daily lives as they personify different characters – sporty, fun, witty, serious, spontaneous -- bringing out their own individualities. Despite these differences, they found pieces in UNIQLO that suit their distinct preferences. Through Chris, Iza, Chito and Nikki, UNIQLO trusts that Filipinos will identify themselves in every product offering that the brand is set to bring to the Philippines.

Katsumi Kubota, Chief Operating Officer of Fast Retailing Philippines, expressed how happy they are that the UNIQLO Cast is finally revealed. "We believe that they will be able to communicate UNIQLO’s brand message and philosophy—‘MADE FOR ALL’—with such zeal and passion. Our objective is to let Filipinos know that UNIQLO has clothes for every individual – no matter who they are, what they love, or where they are from.. As we say in the company, there is a UNIQLO for everyone.”

This presentation of the “UNIQLO Cast” serves as a showcase of UNIQLO’s preparations leading up to the opening of the very first UNIQLO store in the Philippines this coming June 15, 2012, at the 2nd floor of the Main Building, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
